Attic Insulation in Royalton, MN
Attic insulation, air sealing and top-ups sized for Minnesota winters.
Attics Are Where Minnesota Buildings Lose
An under-insulated attic shows up three ways in this climate: heating bills, cold rooms under the roof, and ice dams at the eaves. All three trace to the same physics - warm indoor air leaking up through the ceiling and heat escaping through thin insulation.
We treat the attic as a system. Air-seal the top plates, wire and pipe penetrations, bath fans and the hatch; confirm the ventilation path from soffit to ridge; then insulate to depth - blown-in for open vented attic floors, closed-cell foam for rooflines, vaults and attics being brought inside the envelope. If old material is wet, moldy or rodent-damaged, it comes out first rather than getting buried.
If a top-up over sound existing material is all the attic needs, that is what we quote. A homeowner who needed a simple top-up should never leave an estimate holding a roofline bid.

Common Questions
Will more attic insulation stop my ice dams?
Not on its own. Ice dams come from warm indoor air leaking up through the ceiling, so sealing the top plates, wire and pipe holes, bath fans and the hatch comes first, then insulating to depth. Insulation over a leaky ceiling leaves the ice dams in place.
How do I know if my attic insulation is too thin?
If you can see the tops of the ceiling joists, it is well short of a Minnesota depth. Cold rooms under the roof, frost on the roof deck and a furnace that will not stop running are the other three tells.
Do you remove old attic insulation first?
Only when it needs to go: wet, mouldy, rodent-damaged or badly settled material. Sound existing material gets topped up, which costs less, and we say which one your attic needs after looking at it.
